Every tree that you cut down without replanting is costing the country about 6 billion shillings annually, making worse an already bad water supply situation.

This was revealed in the first ever joint report carried out by the Kenya Forest Services and United Nations Environmental Program - UNEP to establish the role of Kenya's water towers and related ecosystems to the economy. Speaking at the opening of the Kenya water towers, forest and green economy national dialogue at the UNEP headquarters in Gigiri, Forestry and Wildlife Minister Dr. Noah Wekesa said the report highlights the gap in forests conservation and marks a new phase in efforts to conserve the vital ecosystems provided by Kenya forests. Violet Otindo has this report.
