South Africa Commemorates National Youth Day
Hundreds of youngsters, government officials and politicians rallied in Port Elizabeth's Wolfson Stadium to pay tribute to the youth as the country marks the 36th anniversary of the 1976 June 16 student uprising.
At the Hector Pieterson Museum, Soweto, Hector Pieterson's sister, Antoinette Sithole, led the Senator on a tour, during which the Senator remarked that the Soweto uprisings inspired him to get involved in politics. At the end of the tour, Senator Obama laid a wreath at the museum's memorial.

Dear editor, Please note that the image of the US president (Mr Barack Obama) on the June 16 1976 article published on (June 12, 2012) is entirely out of order. I understand that you are trying to capture the attention of your readers. However, that style, indeed undermines the whole article. Obama's image of a senator is never part of the commemoration, as such effort to retrieve his visit to South Africa from the archives is also not commendable. Is the air link between US and South Africa closed off? Because it is under such circumstance that you can present photos retrived from the files to show solidarity. I mean Mr. Obama's photo on June 12, will make both political and social sense only if he visited on June 12, 2012 as he may had been published the year he visited as a senator. The photo does not have any currency to the commemoration. I read news from all Africa on daily basis and I can tell that there is no link between June 16 commemoration of 2012 with a file photo image of the US president who did not attend the commemoration. Thank you.
