Josiah Tongogara was a freedom fighter personified. He was revered and the hope of us all to lead us into independence. But alas, it was to be seen to it that he must die and Mugabe to assume the office of prime minister. Was Mugabe responsible for the death of Tongogara? All we can say is that Mugabe had no objection to the assassination.

It is sad and most ungrateful for our country to neglect the wife and children of this and other notable heroes - particularly someone like Tongogara. If Mrs moneybags Mugabe had a soul, Mrs Tongo would not have to be pleading for assistance so many times. I know Mugabe will continue kicking her to the curb as she has met him time and again, but I hope Tsvangirai is moved enough to assist this First Lady.

Yes well you only get those benefits if you are a zanupf supporter i can witness that. Let take the number of vets in 1980 - without idiots like Takunya who claims to be one and say it was 400,000 - life expectancy in zimbabwe has been an average of 46 or so - which makes about 80% of the 400,000 dead already - so we have say 80,000 war vets left. given the revages of the war and life after that 80 thousand would be many, way to many. I would expect that it is closer to 60 yet we have many more mujibas etc claiming that status because they dont want to work and just want free hand outs - like Takunya. Zimbabwe cant afford free handouts any more its time to look to the future not the past - and how many of my comrades who are too old or frail to get their "pensions" dont collect - many. Stolen again by those zanupf's claiming to be looking after the vets interests.

If you are zimbabwean you must be really ashamed. No nation has ever succeeded without recognising those who put their lives on the line to defend it. These are people who when they were on the front line did not believe they would see the end of the war but who however continued fighting. You are probably the son of some of those fathers who were cowards and did not join the fight, so they could not share with you the horrors they experianced during the struggle. You should ask yourself, for the person who fought for a just nation, a liberal nation, a legacy for his people what does he/she deserve. Our War Vets are not catered for enough.
