Regardless of his reasons Makhloufi quit the 800m race. I could hear him uttering those famous words of Boxer Roberto Duran- no mas! Makhloufi went through his warm-up routine without showing any sign that his knee was injured. The I.A.A.F. was right to expel him and wrong to reinstate him. Spectators buy tickets and sponsors and advertisers pay millions depending the on the quality of the competition. Makhloufi saved himself for the 1500 meters race and he won it. Congratulations are in order. The Olympics is bigger than any one athlete’s interests.
