South African Festival Plagued by Classism
The Muslim Judicial Council fatwa against the Cape Town minstrels' New Year's festival and Malay choirs has put the spotlight on race and classism. The fatwa prohibits Muslims from participating in the minstrel troupes, or watching the minstrels.
