Kenya's Leaders Escape Hague Trials

Deputy President William Ruto and a former radio presenter have joined President Uhuru Kenyatta in escaping trial at the International Criminal Court on charges arising from the 2007/2008 post-election violence in Kenya. One of the two judges who took the decision to vacate charges said the weak prosecution case might be a result of interference with witnesses and political meddling. A third judge dissented from the decision. The charges can be reinstated.

The post-election violence in early 2008 resulted in more than 1,000 deaths and the displacement of at least half a million Kenyans.
