Calls for Transparent Probe Into Kenya Military Chief's Death

During the burial service of General Francis Ogolla, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka of the Azimio coalition urged the government to disclose the cause of the general's death publicly once investigations are complete.

General Francis Ogolla was among nine people killed in a helicopter crash.

The crash occurred in Kenya's Rift Valley shortly after takeoff and left two survivors who are now hospitalized. President William Ruto described the incident as a "tragic moment," saying that the country has lost one of its most valiant generals and expressing personal grief at the loss.

Ogolla had a distinguished military career, joining the Kenya Defense Forces in 1984, training as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, and later heading the Kenyan Air Force. He was promoted to lead the military last year despite being accused by Ruto of attempting to overturn the 2022 presidential election results.

General Francis Ogolla died in a helicopter crash on April 18, 2024.
