Surveillance System Comes to Kenya's Capital

The Ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan Development has launched an integrated urban surveillance system that will see a total of 51 cameras installed in different parts of the city, including crime spots and all traffic-controlled junctions. The urban surveillance system, aimed at ensuring a safe and secure Nairobi has been commissioned at a cost of 437 million shillings and will contain such features as face recognition and car number plate recognition features that will hopefully help deter crime.
