Police Break Up FDC meeting, Besigye Arrested

Police used tear gas to disperse supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change who were headed to the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi in Kampala. Party members had earlier been blocked from holding a planned conference at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on the outskirts of the city. Police say FDC did not have permission to hold the gathering. while the the party says the police were informed. In the ensuing chaos party official and four-time presidential candidate Kizza Besigye was forcefully arrested.
