Ugandan Court Orders Security Forces to Leave Bobi Wine's Home

The High Court in Kampala has ordered security operatives to leave former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi's home in Magere. The musician-turned-politician, who is popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been confined to his home since January 14, 2021, with security claiming that they had evidence that he was planning to incite violence and lead demonstrations after he disputed election results in which the electoral commission declared President Yoweri Museveni the winner of the presidential poll. In his ruling on Monday January 25, Justice Micheal Elubu ordered security operatives to "immediately vacate" Kyagulanyi's home or take him to an authorized detention centre. The AFP news agency is reporting that  soldiers stood down their positions around Kyagulanyi's residence on January 26, allowing him to convene with newly-elected MPs from his party and to talk to supporters, party activists and reporters.

Bobi Wine addresses journalists at his home in Magere, Wakiso District on January 26, 2021.
