Violence Mars Zimbabwe Local Elections After Rigging Claims

Violence has erupted in parts of Mashonaland West following allegations of rigging across the country's 10 provinces at the ruling Zanu PF party's provincial elections, with some candidates being accused of fleeing with ballot papers, New Zimbabwe reports.

Delayed delivery of ballot papers to polling stations was reported in most parts of the country with some members alleging the move was deliberately employed to frustrate supporters of rival parties. Mashonaland West saw outbreaks of violence as names of some candidates could not be found on the ballot paper.

The elections are meant to choose new Provincial Coordinating Committees with the previous ones having been dissolved.
