Rwanda and Uganda's Gatuna Border Re-Opens Three Years Later

The Gatuna border crossing between Rwanda and Uganda was reopened on Sunday, 30 January by the Government of Rwanda. The border has been inactive for nearly four years after Rwanda issued an advisory to it's citizens that their safety in Uganda could not be guaranteed. The border opening comes after the government of Rwanda announced that it would re-open its main border with Uganda as part of efforts to restore bilateral ties.

A statement from the governement of Rwanda noted that just like other land border posts with other countries, health authorities of Rwanda and Uganda will work together to put in place necessary measures to facilitate movement in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
