Poor Voter Turnout In Tunisia's Parliamentary Elections

For a country of over 11 million people, Tunisia's voter turnout saw less than 10% of the population participating in the parliamentary elections on Saturday December 17, 2022. Elections boss Farouk Bouasker, described the voter turnout as "modest". He attributed the low turnout to the changes to the voting system and the absence of political money in electoral campaigns," Tunis Afrique Press reports. In July 2021 President Saied suspended parliament and froze the legislature in a move described by the opposition as a coup, and a violation of the constitution.

The results of the parliamentary elections will be announced from Monday, December 19, 2022.
