No Regrets, Says Sall About Deadly Senegal Protests

President Macky Sall said, during an interview, that the decision taken in February to postpone the presidential election was "in line with the rules and regulations" governing the electoral process, for which he has no regrets.  He said "no legal or judicial institution has cast any doubt on the sincerity of the actions that were taken".

Meanwhile, 19 candidates vying for Senegal's presidency have begun criss-crosing the country ahead of the polls on March 24. Leading oppostion figure Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who is backed by the more charismatic Ousmane Sonko - both recently released from prison - have expressed optimism of winning the election overwhelmingly. Faye will be up against the ruling party's candidate, incumbent Prime Minister Amadou Ba, who aims to continue existing government policies.
