'Unprecedented' Floods Displace Hundreds in Central Somalia

Residents in the country's central region of Hiran have been forced to flee their homes as raging waters from the Shabelle River inundate their communities. The river burst its banks due to heavy rainfall in the area, compounding an already difficult flooding situation.

Local authorities and humanitarian organizations have moved to provide emergency assistance to affected families, while they appeal for more aid "including food, clean water, and temporary shelter" to be dispatched.

Women in flood-hit Somalia are often on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
