Ugandan MPs Detained, Homes Searched in Corruption Case

The homes of three legislators were searched and evidence was seized by the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) as part of a corruption investigation.

Those detained are Parliament's Legal Committee vice chairperson Yusuf Mutembuli, Lwengo Woman MP Cissy Namujju, and Busiki County MP Paul Akamba.

The arrests come after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's revelation during the State of the Nation Address that he had received evidence against a corruption cartel, vowing to crush them.

More senior government officials and parliamentary staff are expected to be summoned for questioning.
