Cholera Hits Lagos, Other Nigerian Cities

Health authorities in Nigeria's largest city Lagos have said the latest strain of the disease identifed in the area appears to be "highly aggressive and contagious". Official data showed the city has recorded more than 350 cases, leading Nigerians to speculate about how the cholera bacteria might have spread to Lagos. One theory suggests a contaminated carcass of a tiger is the culprit, but the authorities have dismissed the suggestion, noting that the case-control study is ongoing.

Deaths in Lagos have increased from five, reported on June 12, to 15.
