Rising Waters in Kenya's Kisumu County Force Residents to Flee

Heavy rains have triggered severe flooding in western Kisumu County, forcing residents to flee as rising waters submerge their homes. Those in low-lying areas fear the swollen River Nyando could burst its banks, further devastating downstream communities.

Affected families have criticized both national and county authorities for a slow response, saying many remain stranded without aid. This comes as heavy rains hit several regions of Kenya, following forecasts of intense downpours across the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and western Kenya.
