AU Condemns Airport Attack in Niger as Security Tightens

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has condemned the armed attack on Niamey's international airport while commending the swift response of Niger's security forces in repelling the assailants.

In the aftermath of the attack, Nigerien authorities reinforced security measures at several strategic locations across the capital. Defense and security forces sealed off areas surrounding the presidential palace and the prime minister's office. The incident comes months after a similar attack targeted the airport and an adjacent military base in late January 2026.
