Kenya Cancels Iran Oil Deal

Kenya has moved with speed to avert a diplomatic row with the U.S. and key western powers, while staving off the threat of facing international sanctions, after it cancelled an agreement it entered into with the Iranian government three months ago, for the importation of four million tonnes of Iranian crude oil per year. Kenya faced undisclosed sanctions if it went ahead to trade with president Ahmedinejad's government, which is under a trade embargo over its controversial nuclear program. Energy Permanent Secretary Patrick Nyoike said the Kenyan government did not want to involve itself in the intricacies of international squabbles. And as Francis Gachuri reports, USA and Israel maintain that Iran was sponsoring terrorist activities in Kenya and other parts of the world, an allegation Iran denies.
