In 1971, Mr. C. Payne Lucas was appointed executive director of Africare, and Dr. Joseph C. Kennedy served as the director of international programs. Together they expanded Africare's reach from an organization providing disaster relief in Niger into a leading international development organization providing food security and agriculture, environmental management, civil society development and governance, health and HIV/AIDS, and emergency humanitarian aid in 26 African countries over the span of 30 years. In this short clip, Mr. Lucas reflects on the organizations founding and the role Dr. Kennedy played in making the organization what it is today. Mr. Lucas retired as president of the organization in 2002. For more information, visit www.africare.org.
