The US election is in full swing across its 52 states and varying time zones with millions of ballots already cast in early and mailed votes.

Democrats and Republicans are keeping a close eye on the so-called swing states where voter turnout is expected to weigh heavy on the outcome of the Electoral College.

Extraordinary security measures have been reported across contentious states like Pennsylvania where toss-ups in the vote outcome are more likely.

Vote day is not without isolated scares common in tight races in democracies across the globe, and America is no different. Early this morning, a Georgia-based polling station was reportedly evacuated over an alleged bomb scare.
Local reports say a polling official has been taken in for questioning over the alleged threat.

Meanwhile, millions of Americans are going about their work day in essential services, having cast their ballots early last week.

We spoke to some of them in Long Island as stations opened across the state.

Meanwhile, fears of forced recounts reminiscent of the 2021 election are raising expectations among voters of a slow and careful count before the result is officially called. (removed As a result, for clarity) This may be a tense and long week for the world's superpower.
