African Union Plans Mediated End to Ivorian Crisis

After governments including those of Angola, South Africa and Uganda pushed back against the West African threat of military intervention to force Laurent Gbagbo to step down, the African Union says it wants to allow more room for peaceful negotiation to avoid blood-letting.
