The Fractures in South Africa's Gay Community

The Joburg Gay Pride parade, the longest-running and largest Pride event in Africa, was halted by activists who staged a protest act to commemorate the murder of black lesbians, however, what ensued was a fight divided along racial lines. Daily Mavericks's Rebecca Davis and Gillian Schutte in Sacsis unpack the incident.

Rights activists: "While race is probably the most recognised and studied societal fault-line in post-Apartheid South Africa, it is clear that contestation around Johannesburg Pride is far more complex," writes activist Emily Craven.
