AFCON, Jewel in African Soccer Crown, Postponed to 2022

The Confederation of African Football has decided to postpone the AFCON 2021 tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With just two of the six qualifying rounds played, CAF said it is "unrealistic" given the current situation to have the remaining qualification phase and the biennial tournament in January 2021. There has been a suggestion made in the past by FIFA President Gianni Infantino that the AFCON be held "less frequently".
