Kenya's Former President Told Off Over Claims of Intimidation

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa has dismissed claims by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta that President William Ruto's allies have been making attempts to intimidate him to retire from politics, reports Capital FM.

In what seemed to be a response to Kenyatta following sentiments expressed during the Jubilee National Delegates Convention held on May 22, 2023, Ichung'wa told off Kenyatta saying he is frustrated. Ichung'wa alleged that the former president has been financing the Azimio La Umoja protests to frustrate Ruto's administration.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei says the government should stop giving Kenyatta benefits entitled to a retired head of state following his declaration to stay put in politics.

Through his Twitter acount, the senator said that Kenyatta is still in denial following his affirmation that he will continue to actively participate in politics.

The tug of war for the heart and soul of the Jubilee party has continued to intensify with the newly installed Jubilee Party Chairperson Sabina Chege by the Kanini Kega-led faction sending a message by attending Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting chaired by Ruto.

Earlier this month Kenyatta was ousted as Jubilee party leader in escalating wrangles in the former ruling party.
