Liberia Braces For 'Severe' Power Outages

The Liberian Electricity Corporation has announced a drastic reduction in the supply of electricity in the country due to a decision by its Ivorian supplier to cut energy supply to Liberia by "85 percent". Compagnie Ivoirienne d'Électricité (CIE) provides a significant portion of Liberia's energy needs under a power purchase agreement.

The Liberian authorities said the latest cut will reduce electricity supply from 50 megawatts to 7.5 megawatts, affecting thousands of households, businesses, and essential services in Monrovia and nearby regions that already grapple with prolonged periods of load-shedding.
