Al-Shabaab Claims Responsibility for Hotel Attack in Somalia

Militant group Al-Shabab gunmen have attacked and laid siege to the Cairo Hotel in Beledweyne, central Somalia, targeting a meeting of government officials and tribal elders discussing action against the group.

The assault began with a car bomb explosion, followed by gunfire, triggering an intense battle with Somali security forces. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility and said that it killed over 10 people. A witness reportedly said that many of those at the meeting were rescued. 

Somali officials have condemned the violence, vowing to intensify efforts against the militants.
