Famine Looms, Women Tell of Horrific Rapes During Sudan War

There have been increasing and alarming reports of rape being used as a weapon of terror during the two-year battle between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF)  - both of whom made up an interim government - while the UN is "gravely alarmed" by intense fighting around El Fasher in Darfur which killed civilians.

After losing control of the capital, Khartoum, the RSF leadership has called being driven out of the city a "tactical decision" to allow it to "reposition in Omdurman" - a nearby city that the RSF used previously to launch its attacks.
