Trump Reverses Huge Tariff Hikes - For Three Months

US President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day "pause" of trade tariffs for all countries except China. Trump shared the decision via social media, saying more than 75 countries made contact with the U.S. administration to "negotiate a solution".

Nigeria's government had downplayed the impact of new U.S. tariffs, citing oil and mineral exports -- which are exempt from the levies -- as making up 92% of Nigerian exports to the U.S, while experts raise concerns about the impact of the new tariffs on their struggling Naira.

Zimbabwe temporarily suspended tariffs on U.S. goods to preserve trade relations and demonstrate goodwill. The move, criticised by the country's opposition, to protect local consumers from potential cost increases and to signal openness to negotiation as global tensions rise.

The new U.S. tariffs targeted value-added sectors like auto manufacturing in South Africa, and the government is now exploring diversification strategies and potential partnerships beyond the U.S.
