Zimbabwean Teachers Threaten Strike as Wage Standoff Escalates

Teachers have joined civil servants demanding higher wages from the government, warning of major disruptions to the upcoming school term if their demands are not met within 14 days. This growing discontent follows the government's April salary adjustments, which public sector workers dismissed as insufficient.

"The current salary structure does not reflect the cost of living, which is largely indexed in USD. Our members' conclusion is clear: there was no meaningful increment in real terms," said Tapedza Zhou, Secretary General of the Educators Union of Zimbabwe.

The government maintains its position on the April pay scale.
