South African Minister Explains Way Forward for Social Grant Payments

Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini is at a meeting in parliament with the Standing Committee on Public Accounts to give account of the progress made by her ministry in finding a new company to take over the payment of social grants to 17 million recipients by early 2018.  The minister briefed the media in East London yesterday on the future payments of social grants. This after a procurement process between SASSA and the South African Post Office did not yield the desired results. The Post Office will also have to appear before SCOPA to report back on the collapsed talks.
