The criminal proceedings against the 67 defendants arrested during a raid of Ram Bar in Kampala violated international and regional non-discrimination guarantees. There are significant indicia that the Ugandan authorities weaponized a vague law forbidding common nuisance to target perceived members of the LGBTQ community. Further, the accused were denied several key fair trial rights.
