Zimbabwe: U.S. Dollar Notes Vanish
Zimbabwe has used the U.S. dollar since 2009 to substitute its own failed currency. A trade deficit for several years, importing more than it exports has led to the country literally running out of paper money. The government has re-introduced a local currency, the bond notes, to replace the U.S. dollars.
