UN Urges Continued Dialogue Amid Somalia Political Stalemate

The UN has hailed efforts by Somali leaders and stakeholders to reach a consensus on the country's political future amid a deepening crisis over the mandate of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's administration. In a statement, the UN said the Secretary-General is closely following political developments in Somalia, "notably the recent high-level talks between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Future Council."

The global body welcomed the parties' willingness to "engage constructively" and encouraged them to continue their dialogue to reach an agreement on the way forward for elections and related issues.
