Improving democracy in Africa requires going beyond symbolic casting of votes. Emphasis is gradually being put on the quality of political party promises to deliver development. Nowhere in West Africa is this exercise in dire need than in Liberia and Sierra Leone, two countries recently ravaged by prolonged wars and the inevitability of the dilapidated health systems which accentuated the spread of the deadly Ebola disease with fatal consequences.
