Biden Meets Regional Leaders In Angola On Transport Corridor

President Joe Biden has ended his three-day visit to Angola with a summit of regional leaders at the port of Lobito, where a multi-billion transport corridor is being built to connect the Atlantic coast with Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The U.S. President and his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço were joined by Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi, Zambia's Hakainde Hichilema, and the Vice President of Tanzania, Philip Mpango.

The 1,300-kilometer rail line is expected to significantly reduce the cost of regional transport. It is a key component of Biden's Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment initiative, which is designed to boost trade and create jobs, while strengthening ties between the U.S. and the region.

Meanwhile, President Biden has announced that the United States is providing more than $1 billion additional humanitarian assistance to address food insecurity and other urgent needs of refugees and internally displaced people in the region.
