Africa's scientific community waits with bated breath for the decision on the location of the square kilometre array, a radio telescope strong enough to detect extraterrestrial life in the far reaches of the universe.
South Africa is currently building the Karoo Array Telescope, or MeerKAT, alongside the proposed SKA core site.
