New Rules to Curb SMS Hate Speech in Kenya

The Communications Commission of Kenya has revealed new guidelines that will allow mobile operators to vet text messages for inflammatory content in a bid to prevent the unrest of the 2008 elections.


Safaricom, Kenya's leading mobile communications provider, has said all political messages sent via SMS will be vetted to ensure they are free of hate speech (file photo).
