Sudan's People Cry for Help As They Die of Thirst, Starvation

The humanitarian situation in Sudan is dire, especially in the central and southern parts of Omdurman.

People are starving to death, lacking water and electricity for months, and facing violence from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF has besieged neighborhoods, cut off access to markets and hospitals, and prevented people from leaving. This has led to a significant increase in food and service prices in Darfur, as well as airstrikes and delayed salaries for employees.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) and other agencies have flagged Sudan as facing extreme humanitarian conditions, with the UN World Health Organization warning that nearly 18 million people across the country are grappling with acute hunger, doubling the number from a year ago.

"I'm worried about the future of my children. I'm thinking about returning to Abyei so that I could provide an education for my children. But if the war comes to an end I'll return to Khartoum and my house as soon as possible, and my husband will be able to work."
