Mourners Line Tanzanian Streets to Bid Magufuli Farewell

Mourners in Tanzania's capital city Dodoma have paid their last respects to President John Magufuli, lined up in the streets rather than at Jamhuri Stadium, due to the large number of people in attendance at the state funeral. When the president's body was in Dar es Salaam, thousands of people flocked to Uhuru Stadium to pay their last respects, causing chaos when several people collapsed, with reports of injuries and deaths. Magufuli, who died on Wednesday, March 17 was buried at his hometown in Chato on March 26. Newly sworn-in President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced 21 days of mourning for Magufuli, adding that flags will fly at half-mast for the period.
