16 Days Of Activism - Rising Calls To End Gender-Based Violence

Programs are being in held in many African countries to commemorate the start of the 16 Days of Activism, an annual global compaign calling for an end to violence against women and girls around the world. It runs from November 25 to December 10.

Rwanda is marking this year's campaign under the national theme, "All for GBV-free families", which emphasizes the "importance of family cohesion and the collective responsibility of the family members in preventing and addressing gender-based violence".

In South Africa, the Minister for Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has pledged to hand over 16 houses to victims of gender-based violence and femicide throughout the campaign period, while Liberia Minister of Gender Gbeme Horace-Kollie called on her compatriots to unite and intensify their efforts against the practice in order to "send a powerful call to action".
