U.S. Urges More Support For Counter-Terrorism Fight In Somalia

The U.S. government has called on the international community to increase support for counter-terrorism efforts in Somalia. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, the U.S. Acting Deputy Representative to the UN, John Kelley, said Somalia's security situation remains precarious and requires robust international cooperation.

The U.S. official praised the African Union's support to strengthen regional security and stressed that the U.S. will continue to back Somali institutions and peace efforts in the broader region.

Kelley said it is a critical moment for countries that "care about Somalia's future", as he called for the reinforcement of support "especially through sustained economic aid".
