Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, delivered a keynote address at the AllAfrica Media Leaders' Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on the critical role of the media in shaping Africa's narrative amidst challenges, reports allAfrica's Melody Chironda.
He emphasized how technology has profoundly changed the way we consume media and stressed the importance of being critical in the face of an overwhelming amount of information and misinformation. Adesina expressed his concern about the prevalence of negative stereotypes in how Western media portrays Africa and called for a shift towards highlighting positive African accomplishments and investment prospects.
The gathering was attended by 300+ media professionals and representatives from international institutions and civil society organizations. Participants delved into media's role in shaping Africa's future, examined business models for sustainable operations, discussed economic development and social progress, and explored the role of AI and other technologies.
