Boakai Suspends Over 400 Liberian Officials In Anti-Graft Fight

President Joseph Boakai has taken his administration's fight against corruption up a notch by suspending more than 400 officials who failed to declare their assets with the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission. The president's action affects ministers, heads of state-owned enterprises, and ambassadors who will now forfeit a month's salary and must turn over the government's assets until their mandatory declaration is done.

The move received widespread public support and comes after Liberia made marginal improvements in the latest Transparency International report. Although he campaigned on an anti-corruption theme, Boakai's administration has been dogged by allegations of graft involving some government agencies.
