A Malawian judge has rejected an attempt by Madonna to adopt a second child from the country, a local newspaper reported Friday.

Madonna, 50, the world's wealthiest female singer, is confronting the same controversy that accompanied her first adoption of a Malawian child; the difference is that this time she is a single mother.

Madonna is back in Malawi, seeking to adopt another child from the country – despite controversy over her adoption of a child there three years ago.
